Unless indicated by your doctor or obstetrician, massage during the first trimester is completely safe. Unfortunately, as most miscarriages do occur in the first trimester many practitioners will avoid massage during this period for liability reasons. However, we are specifically trained to assist you throughout your length of pregnancy and are more than happy to massage you during the first trimester. In fact, if you are used to regular massage, there is no need to stop your regular treatment once you do fall pregnant! If you have any concerns or queries we would love to have a chat with you!
You can most certainly have a pregnancy massage throughout the entire length of your pregnancy. We see lots of women right up to the 38 week mark (and sometimes longer than this!) Massage supports a healthy pregnancy and we recommend you continue with massage therapy until labour, to help with this as much as possible! It is safe and beneficial to continue with regular massage up to your due date and beyond. Pregnancy massage is a great way to prepare our body for the experience of giving birth!
Every woman and each pregnancy is so different. In general if you have decided to make massage a part of prenatal care, we suggest monthly during the first trimester and fortnightly during the second and weekly during the third. However, as this does depends on how your body copes with the demands of pregnancy, your massage therapist will devise a plan for your prenatal management closely with you.
Yes, it is completely safe. Our therapists are fully qualified health professionals to undertake a pregnancy massage. Massage during a normal pregnancy is not harmful at all. In fact, massage supports a healthy pregnancy, and should be considered an essential part of your pre-natal care!
We recommend an hour for your first initial massage with us. This allows time for our massage therapists to devise a pre-natal management plan with you after your massage to best support you during your pregnancy. From here, our appointment times are either 30 or 60 minutes long. We can also offer a 90 minute massage upon request.
At FNQ Health Co., we use a super comfortable belly pillow for our massages which allows you to lye on your stomach. If you don’t feel comfortable we always have the option of side-lying which some women prefer. We will work with you to make sure to accomodate you and make you feel comfortable for the entire length of your massage.
At FNQ Health Co., we use 100% pure coconut oil. This is one of the best oils to use and as well as leaving your skin feeling wonderful, has no nasties, no chemicals and completely safe to absorb pre-natally. We understand that what mum gets, bub does too! If there is an oil you would prefer us to use, we welcome you to bring that in also.
Yes, we have a hicaps machine onsite and are able to process your health fund rebate at the time of your appointment. Alternatively, most health funds offer an online claim service also, which we can also help you with.
Yes, gift vouchers can be purchased with us for any of our massages, including pregnancy massage. We can either organise postage or pick up for our vouchers, which make fantastic presents particularly for baby showers! Please contact us for more information!
We recommend you wear loose fitting clothing that you feel comfortable in. Once your massage therapist has welcomed you, they will leave the room and you will be required to undress (down to your underwear) before you get up onto the massage table. You will be covered completely with a towel and your therapist will ensure to make this as comfortable as possible for you throughout the length of your massage.
No, not unless you have a high risk pregnancy or there are any complications. We love working with other health professionals involved in your health care, however we don’t need a referral for a massage. If you have any concerns with your pregnancy, we are more than happy to chat with your health care team, to ensure you receive the best pre-natal care possible.
In most cases, as soon as you like! If you have had a healthy pregnancy and delivery, a massage is a good option as soon as you feel ready! Massage post-natally can further assist your recovery and we like to be able to help as soon as possible. Often after a caesarean, we recommend you wait 6 weeks for the scar to heal and for you to feel comfortable. And realistically, we face the logistics of care and feeding times etc. but remember it is important for you to look after you!
We understand that life doesn’t always go according to plan and occasionally you may not be able to attend your appointment. However, we are a busy clinic and failure to notify use of non-attendance means another client misses out too. Should you need to reschedule or cancel your appointment, please inform us at least 24 hours prior as per our late notice fee policy.
